I apply an integrated therapeutic approach in my sessions to suit your needs. I believe that living your truth is where you begin making the change. Therapy offers a safe space to talk honestly and openly about your challenges and feelings, however brutal it may seem to say out loud. I provide a non-judgmental space for you to share what's on your mind. Everyone wants to be heard, feel understood and not feel judged. I find that building a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients is central to my overall approach. For many, it may be your first time and possibly the first good relationship where you feel safe and open to sharing your story.

My focus is on helping people make sense of challenges they are currently experiencing, clarify what is important to them, and take steps to make desired change. My approach to therapy is person-centred, collaborative, and aims to meet the unique needs of each person.

Joanne facilitates confidential conversations with individuals and couples that opens up space for an exploration of problems, associated trauma (micro or macro) and focuses on what it means to you to reconnect back to self, by using developmental models of therapeutic change. By developing an awareness that when core needs/values are compromised, maladaptive emotional/behavioural patterns are created as a pattern of survival. I am a registered educational psychologist with an interest in the emotional well-being of young people. My practice is based on positive psychology and neuroscience, resting on the assumption that we can shine a light on every child. Children live their lives in the unique sense-making stories that they develop about themselves. Fortunately, stories that do not work for children can be changed, with consequent improvements in the way they feel and act. I am currently seeing young people who want to change their relationships with anxiety, stress and depression. I also welcome parents and teachers who want to consider their own thoughts, emotions and actions as they support their children.

Psychotherapy is a deeply personal journey. This journey is unique to each individual, where the journey may begin with seeking purpose in the person’s life or seeking to make meaning of life and its mysteries. It may involve seeking relief from emotional pain and suffering or unbearable feelings. It might also consist of confronting shadows from your past or healing from a traumatic past event. I see my work as a psychotherapist as accompanying you on your journey together, where I hope to support you in finding growth, balance, and a sense of harmony and peace. In addition, I offer supervision, and K9-assisted therapy.

Julia’s area of expertise is as a trauma informed specialist with fifteen years of therapeutic experience. She holds lived experience as a former refugee born in Pakistan and arrived as an asylum seeker with her family at age ten. Her passion for cultural connection and supporting clients from diverse cultural and linguistic background is evident in her linguistic talent of five languages. Julia has extensive experience in management of trauma, family separation, loss, work place conflict management and mediation, supervision. Julia has excellent risk management expertise and is proficient in managing crisis and critical incident
